2017 Spring Meet Report – Celebration of Cars

For a couple of years now, The Antique Automobile Club of Cape Canaveral has invited us to join them at their ‘Celebration of Cars’ event at the Wickham Park Pavilion in Melbourne, Florida.

So, this year it was decided to accept their kind offer and make it our Spring Meet. Admittedly it was different from the usual format for us as a club; participating in a large public show along with hot rods, classic cars and other marques. There was also the registration fee and a fire extinguisher requirement.

We were joined for the meet by members of VSA, though in fact, some of us are members of both clubs.

The day turned out to be a great success. The weather was perfect and the setting was great.

The AACCC organizers went out of their way to welcome us and had a section cordoned off close to the entrance of the show for the Volvo’s to display together.

“American Muscle” was the theme of the show and by the end of the afternoon there were nearly 300 cars on the field. Other clubs in attendance included a couple of Corvette clubs, the British Car Club and even four Avanti’s spotted in the mix!

Our 21 Volvo’s in attendance, ranging from early round fenders, to a 2016 V60 Polestar, created an interesting counterpoint and a rather impressive contingent, second only to the Chevrolets, and were very well received. So much so, that Jim Duffy won a People’s Choice Award for his gorgeous 1800S!

We were very happy to re-connect with old friends and welcome some new faces and new cars to the Volvo mix and to get the chance to see all the other cars at the show, to enjoy the tunes, food and good weather.

Thanks to everyone who attended and made it such a great day. And of course, to the Antique Automobile Club of Cape Canaveral for inviting us and specially to Sue and Joe who made us very welcome.
